The Canterbury Dining Table - Rectangular
Permanent by Design
Designed as a permanent fixture rather than a temporary furnishing, the Canterbury Dining Table is a statement in proportion, material integrity, and structural discipline. This is not a trend-led piece, but a considered object intended to anchor a space for decades.
Solid Oak, Full Depth
The tabletop is crafted from genuine solid oak, measuring 3.5 cm thick, selected for its density, stability, and natural resistance to flex. Unlike veneered or laminated alternatives, the oak is full-depth and structurally sound. The surface is finished with a protective oil coating, sealed and prepared for long-term daily use while preserving the character and warmth of the grain beneath.
The result is a table that feels substantial, composed, and resolutely solid.
Balanced Proportions for Real Homes
Measuring 220cm × 100cm, the 6–8 seater format provides generous dining space without excess. The proportions are intentionally restrained to suit modern living spaces, avoiding the oversized, commercial feel of wider formats.
With a 72 cm clearance beneath the tabletop, legroom is excellent, ensuring comfort for everyday dining and longer gatherings.
Architectural Black Steel Base
Supporting the oak top is a precision-engineered X-frame steel base, finished in Architectural Black — a durable, matte powder coat chosen to visually ground the table while resisting wear over time.
The structure is designed with zero-tolerance stability. The table does not flex, rack, or wobble under load. When moved, it shifts as a single mass — not as a collection of joined components.
Zero Wobble Engineering
All base-to-top interfaces are isolated using neoprene rubber layers. These dampen vibration, prevent micro-movement, and distribute load evenly across the oak surface. This eliminates the joint fatigue, loosening, and wood fracturing commonly seen in lesser constructions over time.
The result is absolute stability — now and years from now.
Detachable, Without Compromise
The base is fully detachable, allowing the table to be transported safely when moving home. Once reassembled, alignment and structural integrity are preserved exactly as intended, with no degradation in rigidity or performance.
This is permanence with practicality.
Engineered Load Capacity
The architectural X-frame base is engineered to support extreme static loads, with an estimated structural threshold of up to 1 tonne. The solid oak tabletop itself is structurally rated at approximately 350 kg under distributed load. These figures reflect conservative engineering estimates, included for reassurance rather than spectacle.
Precision Fixing System
The tabletop is secured using black stainless steel M8 bolts paired with integrated detachable inserts. This fixing system ensures consistent clamping force, even load distribution, and long-term joint integrity, while allowing repeated disassembly without compromising strength or alignment.
Built Once, Built Properly
Every decision in the Canterbury Dining Table is made with longevity in mind. This is not a disposable item, but a deliberate piece — architectural in presence, engineered in execution, and designed to age with dignity.
It communicates permanence, restraint, and quiet confidence.
